What is Bicycle Seat Posts
Bicycle seat posts, also known as seatpins, extend upward from the bicycle frame and attach to the saddle. They are adjustable and usually marked to indicate the minimum insertion. Getting the correct length for your bicycle is essential to a comfortable ride. A good seatpost should be flexible enough to fit under the saddle but secure enough to prevent movement.
Bicycle seat posts come in a wide variety of lengths and widths. The length is critical as it determines the maximum and minimum seat height. Additionally, it determines the weight of your bicycle. A longer post will weigh more than a shorter one. A shorter seat post is also less flexible when adjusting seat height.
Seat posts vary in length and diameter, depending on the internal dimensions of the bicycle seat tube. Seat posts are usually round or flat, but they also vary in offset, which is the distance between the center of the seat post and the seat tube clamp area. Seat posts may also have shims that are available to fit larger seat tubes.
